MY NOD TO HALLOWEEN

Since it's 2 a.m., it's technically Halloween. This won't be a long post; it's simply for purposes of Halloween.

First, a complete VOTD. Or VO-Yesterday. Whatever. It's a vent.

Last night I settled in with what I thought was a foolproof plan for a fairly quick Halloween mani that I would actually wear out of the house. Mummy nails the water marble way. I'm good at water marbles, right? Should be a cinch.

I found the polishes I wanted and off I went. I marbled 'em all, and they looked really nice.  As a marble. As mummies, not so much.

And then being the genius that I am, not only did I not take a picture of that nice water marble, I took it off, painted my  nails blue and called it a night.

I went to bed pissed.

So the plan for today was work, clean the house, make supper, do Halloween nails. And that's exactly what I did. 

I'm not the least bit excited by these, but at least I can say I did a manicure for Halloween.  Cuz' I'm cool like that.

This is a gradient using (light to dark) Essie Rock the Boat, China Glaze Secret Peri-Winkle and Maybelline Color Show Blue Freeze. Then I used Julep Ledi for the black stamping. The graveyard is off of Messy Mansion's HD04 stamping plate, and the little bats are from the Bundlemonster BM213 plate.  As an afterthought I decided to slap on a bit of Orly Shine On Crazy Diamond to add a bit of twinkle to the night sky.

I'm assuming this will be on for a few days. Razzie will be here for some puppy fun this weekend, so at this point I'm just hoping to get this off before work on Monday, at which point it will be too late to be sporting a graveyard on my nails.

FRANKENSTEIN

I'd like to officially state that I kinda' want to smack some of my nail group friends. I'm trying so very hard to not buy, and they keep finding and posting all kinds of spectacular polishes. I managed to resist the new Mentality holographics, but come on! I'm only human!  Honestly, if you've never had the pleasure of owning one of their polishes, you really should consider it because they are ah-mazing. 

So today I caved and ordered 3 of the damn things. And while I'm busy hanging my head in shame, the "ladies" are over on Facebook snickering. A-holes. Such a turrible, just turrible, bunch of instigators.

Since I was busy posting this Halloween mani all over Facebook yesterday, shamelessly asking for votes, I may as well post it here today.  I didn't even know about the contest until yesterday, and it ended last night. As far as I know, I did manage to get the most votes, but the winner is chosen by votes AND a judging panel. I think that is a fantastic idea. I don't often enter voting contests because they are notorious for people figuring out how to cheat, and bloggers that have a gazillion followers can really corner the market on votes. There are 3 prizes, so I'm hoping I'll snag one of them. Why wouldn't I want to win free polish, right?

So here's my Frankenstein mani that I did by request.

I'm never a huge fan of anything I have to do freehand, but this turned out pretty much exactly like I wanted it to. And oh, hellz bellz, I just realized I didn't even take note of what color green that is. We'll just call it "puke green". If you want to duplicate this one for the holiday, just dig through your greens until you find one that looks kinda' pukeish. Then grab a black and a toothpick and have at it.

I will say I do like it better than the candy corn mani, and I wouldn't have minded leaving it on for a day, but I had to move on to the next thing.

Right now I'd like to move on to going home for the day, but I still have almost an hour to kill. I don't have any work to do; bossman wandered out of here about 45 minutes ago with an "I'll be right back", and I haven't seen him since. I hate when he does that. People call and get annoyed when I don't know when he'll be here or where he is. Mr. Laid-Back just doesn't seem to think I should  know the scoop. I should be used to it after 23 years, but it still irks my ass.

I wish I had trained him better.

Are YOU ready for Halloween? Costume all figured out? Undead nails all set to go?

I didn't think so.

I'm a bit confused why a magazine would want what I consider to be a Halloween mani for a spring/summer issue, but who am I to question the powers that be at Les Nouvelles? If they use this one, I'm interested to see what the article is going to be about. This one sure as hell doesn't fit in with anything else they asked for.

All in all, it's kind of a fun mani. If I was under the age of, say, 20? I certainly don't know where I could ever wear something like this. Can you picture me showing up at the law office in this one?? The bossman might even notice, although in the past year the only one he's ever commented on was my snakeskin foils. I'm pretty sure he'd have something to say about this look.

Festive, right? I mean seriously, who wouldn't want blood-dripping nails for everyday wear? 

This was pretty fun to do, though. I did three coats of Julep Jennifer as my base. I wanted something just a little pink-toned but neutral and thought this suited my purposes pretty well.  I looked through a lot of my red/burgandy polishes trying to choose one that wasn't too bright and settled on "10" Professional Holiday in Spain. I think it's a great color for blood. Personally, I'd prefer mine to be blue, but it's not. Thanks a heap, mom and dad.

I had never heard of "10" Professional before but found a lot of ten on eBay awhile back that I think I paid something like $16 for. It was such a good deal with such good colors, I decided to grab it. It was awesome because I ended up really loving these polishes. I still look for it on eBay hoping for another bargain. I'd like even more colors, of course.

Again, I digressed. I plopped a pretty good-sized amount of the burgandy right along the top edge of my tips and then dragged it down with my smallest dotting tool. I didn't bother to topcoat it because I preferred that the "blood" not get smoothed out with the base. 

I figured in real life, if I somehow managed to get blood all over just the tips of my nails like this, once it was starting to dry it wouldn't be all blended in and smooth. Ya' know, cuz' for sure that could happen. Just ten bloody tips with no blood anywhere else. Yup. True story. Believe it.

Although with that zombie apocalypse coming......
